Cast resin sculpture

The original sculpture: Making the mold & casting:
For a long time I've wanted to expand my 2D work into 3D. January of this year I created my first sculpted piece. I chose a guitar player. I call it "Steppin' Out".

The pictures here illustrate the various stages starting with the original sculpture, the mold making process, casting the work and ending with the finished hand painted sculpture. The sculpture is about 9" tall. It is a very limited edition piece. Only 50 of these will be made, plus five artist proofs. Each piece is hand painted by me (so it's also an original painting), no two will be exactly alike. I will paint each one as I like or to suit a customers request. Each sculpture is signed and numbered on the bottom and also comes with a custom wood base to display it on and a certificate of authenticity. I plan to continue with a series of musicians, coming out with a new one every few months. There will probably be six or more different musicians in the series.

The price for the sculpture is $395. (shipping & FL sales tax extra). I've already sold the first 5 of the series. If you would like one, contact me or one of the galleries that represent me.

What is cast resin? Resin is liquid plastic. Two separate liquids that when mixed together react to create a quick hardening solid peice. The type used for casting sculpture is capable of reproducing the smallest details and is extremely hard when cured (dry) and it's paintable.

Why resin? Cost. The artist can make the mold and cast small pieces in the studio. Resin is not cheap, but compared to casting bronze, and paying a foundry to do all the work involved with that process, resin is less costly and allows the artist to sell the pieces at more affordable prices than similar sized bronze sculpture.
